It seems like the major television networks and movie studios have run out of ideas. Instead of coming up with original ideas, they are now simply recycling old movies and television shows. They brought back:
The Terminator
The Bionic Woman
Knight Rider
Rambo
Rocky
I can’t wait until they bring back the A-Team, Air Wolf, and the Golden Girls. One of the most interesting shows that they have brought back is American Gladiator.
American Gladiator
The men and women on American Gladiator have huge muscles and they look like they are zero percent body fat. At first glance, I thought they all were on steroids or some other performance enhancing drugs. However, the network reports that all gladiators are tested for illegal drugs.
Gladiators Ready
I only watched the first episode of the show. It’s not the type of show I need to program into my Tivo. However, after watching the first episode I asked myself: How can I look like an American Gladiator?
Before I continue, I would like to apologize. I know that Israel has readers who do not live in America and I hope this post does not offend them. However, Canadian Gladiator or Australian Gladiator just does not sound as good as AMERICAN Gladiator.
How To Look Like An American Gladiator
The keys to building large muscles are strength training, eating an adequate amount of protein, and consuming more calories than you burn.
The keys to burning fat are strength training, eating an adequate amount of protein, and burning more calories than you consume.
I know some of you want to build muscle and burn fat at the same time. However, this is very difficult to do and maintain. Instead you should focus on burning all of the fat you want to lose while maintaining the muscle mass you already have.
When you get to your desired body fat percentage, switch your focus to building lean muscle mass. When you have reached your goal, you will look like an American Gladiator.

My buddy Stefan over at Perfect Blogging is having a contest where 20 people will win $50 each. That’s $1,000 in prizes! It’s his birthday so he’s trying to do it big.
Stefan is throwing a birthday contest and is giving away $50 to 20 different people! All you have to do subscribe to his RSS feed by email. You can find the form on the right sidebar on any page on his blog. The winners will be chosen with a randomizer. The first 20 people selected will be given $50 each. The contest ends on the February 15th so head on over now and enter.
Free Blog ConsultationOn top of giving away a truck load in cash, Stefan is also offering a free blog consultation for his RSS subscribers. He will shoot you some free tips about your design, traffic, readership, monetizing and a few plugins you could use. It’s always good to have an outside opinion, worth a shot.
Perfect Blogging
Stefan has been writing some great content that is definitely worth a read. He’s started a mini guide about improving your blog and blogging. The guide already has three installments and they all have been focusing on different aspects.
If you are looking for new ways to monetize Stefan gives 15 ways to get blogging ideas. As a blogger I am always trying to think about the next topic and article I am going to write. His 15 ways could definitely get your blogging juices flowing.
Perfect Blogging is a blog about blogging. Strange to those of you who aren’t bloggers, isn’t it? However, blogging about blogging is a very popular niche and quite a few people actually make a living doing it. Now, Perfect Blogging is a rather new blog and is only beginning to develop content about various blogging topics, but it has great potential.
The first thing I notice about Perfect Blogging is its simple, yet appealing look. The blog has a nice logo, decent sidebar organization, and easy navigation. The design is a 3-column look which while I’m normally highly against, Perfect Blogging makes it work.
The content. There isn’t much of it, but could use some polishing on how they are written. I find myself lost while reading which is a major turnoff.
The post date structure. I like to know a specific date when a post is made. It’s nice to know if a post is fresh or not, but on Perfect Blogging, all I see is a month.
SEO (search engine optimization). I noticed Perfect Blogging isn’t optimizing too many keywords on its homepage nor on any of its posts. I suggest using Uberdose’s All-In-One SEO plugin for wordpress
RSS Visibility. I believe Perfect Blogging could see more organic RSS readers if the RSS module was moved to the top of the right sidebar. That way it would be more noticeable to new readers.
Overall, Perfect Blogging has a lot of potential and I see great things from Stefan in the future. If you would like to start a blog or would like tips on how to become a better blogger, visit Perfect Blogging today.

Ever feel tired and sluggish through the day? I do, a lot. I’m a very unmotivated and lazy person, I’ll admit it. But, I force myself (or my workout partner forces me to do it), and the best way I’ve found to keep my energy up through the day, was to do something unorthodox … creative … original.
OK, so it may not be any of those things but it does keep my metabolism high through the day. I feel a lot more energetic, and less likely to procrastinate. By now you’re probably tired of hearing me talk about my day, and want to know what I do! Well, it’s pretty simple. When I wake up, I try my best to hop on the treadmill right after I wake up. I roll over, through my cell phone against the wall for waking me up, then smack my alarm clock which goes off about 30 seconds later … and by now, I’m out of bed good and mad.
I grab my water from the fridge, throw back some green tea caps, ALRI Venom, and some cayenne pepper extract and hit the treadmill. I’m a firm believer in low-impact, high-intensity cardio. I crank the incline all the way up (15% grade on mine), and walk at a brisk pace. I worked up .1 mph every day until I was at a comfortable pace (which is 4.5mph for me, any faster and I feel like I’m jogging), and do this for at least 45 minutes.
I’ll be writing more on the topic, but the basic theory behind this is that the body takes about 20 minutes to burn it’s first-supply of glycogen (sugar). This comes from the liver, after that has been used, the body starts converting fat into energy. This is what sheds the pounds, and takes the waistline down. When you do this right after waking up, on an empty stomach, the body will skip right past the liver (as it used that energy to sustain life while sleeping) and start converting fat stores.
If I happened to lose you through that, I’m sorry. Basically … your body starts burning fat FASTER when you do cardio after waking up and on an empty stomach, then it would if you hopped on the treadmill after having even a simple meal! Aim for more than 30 minutes to really make your cardio session effective, and work at a brisk comfortable pace.

Car pushing can help build muscle and strength in ways you never would have imagined. I first came across car pushing and pulling while watching The World’s Strongest Man competition on ESPN as a kid. It can help train your body in ways that conventional weights, exercises, and machines can’t. It’s also a great total body cardio workout.
I have been wanting to test my strength by pushing a car for quite some time. So I finally decided to bite the bullet and head to the park. I managed to convince a nice guy at the park to let me push his 2004 Ford Expedition around the lot for a few minutes. The total curb weight for that size truck is 5499 lbs. Add to that the 173 lbs. that the guy weighed and the extra stuff I saw in the trunk of the SUV and we are looking at well over 5600 lbs. Oh, and I have it all on camera.
I wasn’t at all intimidated by the size of the truck, I knew I could push it. I just didn’t want to look like a fool pushing around a car. My car pushing skills are limited to the many times I have had to get out and push a stalled car from the middle of the road or a car stuck in the snow during the winter in NYC. That hasn’t happened for a few years, so I am rusty. I didn’t bother stretching, instead I mentally prepared myself for the task. Small words of encouragement and picturing myself push the car around helped to psyche me up.
As you will see in the video, it wasn’t that hard to start off. I found it rather easy pushing the truck from the back, but pushing from the front was really difficult. The engine weight maybe? I estimate that I pushed for anywhere from 50 to 80 yards. Either way, it was a great experience. After that last push I ended up with that burning sensation in my throat. You know, the feeling you get when you train real hard and your heart and chest start pumping. I usually get that feeling when I run fast, but 2 or 3 minutes of car pushing and I was feeling it bad! My technique may be off, but then again I was just doing this to say I could do it. Next time, I will look into car pushing techniques. I tried pushing with my legs and upper body, then just my legs, then just my upper body. It all felt the same.
Here’s the video:

Okay ladies this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to enter the mind of us men.
I am going to bring you into the world and inner most desires of the male brain. It has long been accepted that women are the complicated species. But in actuality men can be seen as so simple that they are in fact looked over.
So ladies are you ready for the secrets?
We really don’t like it when you speak about sports. It’s our thing and you being a sports fanatic can be a major turn off. Imagine if we ranted and raved about mascara and lip gloss? Tom boys have a certain appeal but in the end we want a sexy girl. So keep off our turf on this one.
Men are always looking for an extra inch. Whether it be on our arms, in height, SUV length, bigger homes, and yes even our penis. Size matters to us. If a pill was created by a mad scientist to turn a man into a giant you better believe 99.9999 percent of men would swallow the darn thing and start smashing the nearest DMV building in two seconds flat. If a potion is created that would promise 40 inch biceps we would drink eight cups a day no doubt. Space boots that gave us super human speed and leaping abilities, we are there!
All men still fantasize about the possibilities of x-ray eye wear…we want to know what color intimates you have on without having to ask you. I have to also admit that if we were buxom buddies with a sorcerer it would be a sure bet that we would be using his powers for interesting purposes to say the least. Imagine if that wizard could cast a spell on the hottest girl inducing her to fall in love with us. We would definitely be all over that mystic power, pronto.
And yes we love big breast. Plain and simple, no if ands or butts! Oh yeah we like a nice, proportionate, child bearing rear end as well. But unnatural, surgically enhanced freak breast are not at all appealing. So most importantly be naturally beautiful, that’s more sexy than extra inches on your bust line.
We absolutely love food. Sloppy, greasy, juicy, hearty, meaty, tasty, and mouth popping foods are our sinful pleasures. And we don’t feel guilty about this vice. We might act like we do but we really don’t feel any shame. We are men and this is what men do. So what does this mean for women? Well I feel it affirms the old adage as true, “a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” So learn to satisfy our bellies and you could find yourself an irreplaceable spot in our hearts. Lately men are noticing that the newer breed of females doesn’t come with any man-rearing and tending skills. So emulate the women we already love like mom and grandma. Do our laundry, iron our clothes, feed us well, wipe our cheek and dote over us and you’ve got us for life.
Do something wild with us at least three times a year. Keep us on our toes. Never let us figure you out. Even if you are our wife of fifteen years and have become super soccer mom you should still have a secret side in our eyes. The secret side should be a side that only you and us know about. I’m speaking of a double agent life style that your male significant other benefits from. Women who have mastered this technique have men who stare at them even when she is doing house work because in his mind he is thinking “yeah she’s a housewife but my buddies and her mother don’t know what she does for me when we go to Vegas every Valentines day.” Now that’s hot, house mom who’s secret double life is for her naughty husband only!
At this point I must cease revealing anymore. I have been found out by a free mason man organization that will be kidnapping and torturing me for my treason against the opposite sex. You never read this!

It seems to me that you can hardly go one day without hearing health related news. There are new miracle pills developed on a seemingly daily basis, medical reports are published frequently debunking some previous health myth, and it seems as though half of all TV commercials deal with some aspect of health. There’s no way around it; health is important and it’s everywhere!
I lead a pretty busy life – there’s grad school, there’s my wife, then there’s my job. Oh yeah, and don’t forget about my side businesses online like my blog and other e-business websites. My days are packed tight and my schedule is full from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed. After examining my lifestyle and my schedule, I’ve often tried to streamline my life so that I’m not doing anything that is not productive. I’ve tried to replace the junk with the more fruitful things in life but no matter how I tried and no matter how I rearranged my schedule I always managed to leave in time for exercise. Be it going to the gym in the winter or going for a run/jog/walk when it’s nice outside, exercise is the key to help me keep a good mental attitude and physical condition. If the saying “you are what you eat†is true, I find that “you are what you do†is just as relevant.
Regardless of how my day is going, I always feel a little better after exercising. After working out, I feel better about myself, my situations, and know that I’ve made progress with whatever is on my mind because I have just spent time passively and actively thinking about whatever that may be. Exercise is a great stress reliever, self-esteem builder, and motivator. Whenever I work out, I always work better and write better afterwards. I work more efficiently, my blog posts are better and more articulate, and my school work gets done more efficiently.
The list below represents my top 5 reasons to work out and exercise regularly. Not only do these reasons motivate me, but they give me a much needed break from life and provide me with some “alone†time to think about and organize the rest of my tasks.
Exercise improves my mood. After a busy day of work and classes, when I go to the gym for a workout I feel my mood change for the better. By the time I’m done, I have more energy and motivation to do whatever else needs to be done that day.
Exercise helps me to organize the rest of my tasks. Regardless of where I exercise, I’m able to think about the tasks that I need to get done the rest of the day. A hectic schedule sometimes doesn’t afford me time to think, so exercise is my thought outlet.
Exercise relieves stress. After a particularly challenging day, I look forward to going to the gym for a nice work out. Lifting weights and jogging on the treadmill help me to relieve the stresses of the day and I leave the gym feeling like a new person.
Exercise helps me sleep better. This cannot be understated or under rated. Sleeping well is key to feeling good the next day. Waking up after a good night’s sleep is a great feeling and exercising can help you achieve that kind of sleep regularly!
Balance is the key to life. No matter if you work 3 jobs or are retired, there must be balance in your life. I find that exercise is a great equalizer in my life and helps me to balance out my thoughts, stresses, and plans. If you already exercise, keep it up! If you don’t exercise regularly, I dare you to find a gym and start going. You’ll thank me for it later.

Okay, the Super Bowl is set. Israel’s New York Football Giants versus the undefeated and unstoppable New England Patriots. I don’t think the Giants have a chance, but I didn’t think they could beat the Buccaneers, the Cowboys, or the Packers.
Now that you know who is in the Super Bowl, you need to make plans to watch the game. You have three choices. You can:
Attend someone else’s Super Bowl Party
Throw your own Super Bowl Party
Stay at home and watch the game all by yourself
I hope none of you are planning on choosing Choice #3. If you are, I invite you to go to Israel’s house to watch the game. Just don’t tell him I sent you.
Some of you are excited about the Super Bowl itself. Some of you are excited about the commercials. However, many of you are excited about the food you are going to eat. Many of you plan to eat junk foods and fast foods, but you don’t have to. With a little creativity, advanced thinking, and a few substitutions, you can turn an unhealthy Super Bowl Feast into a healthy Super Bowl Feast.
I will give you some examples, but you should think of your own also.
Healthy Substitution Ideas
Drink light beers instead of regular beers
Drink diet sodas instead of regular sodas
Eat non-breaded buffalo wings instead of breaded buffalo wings
Eat salsa instead of sour cream based dips
Eat baked tortilla chips instead of fried
Eat oven-fried chicken instead of pan-fried chicken
Eat sandwiches made with lean meats, mustard, and whole wheat bread instead of sandwiches made with fatty meats, mayo, and white bread
Eat South Beach Diet Pizzas instead of delivery
Eat pizzas made with whole wheat crust and 2% mozzarella instead of pizzas made with white crust and regular fat mozzarella
Eat sweet potato fries fried in canola oil or Terra Chips instead of regular French fries
Use hot sauce/Tabasco sauce instead of ketchup
Drink water or crystal light instead of juice
Eat lean turkey burgers instead of beef burgers
The possibilities are endless. Just take your favorite foods and find a healthier option with fewer calories, grams of “bad” fats, and grams of “bad” carbs. And if you are going to someone else’s party, take some healthy options with you so you have something to eat and drink.
Over at Lazy Man and Money, I’ve listed my 2008 Goals. Since some of those goals were health-related, I figure it’s best to write about them here. I have a lot of spare time right now - and if things remain that way, I’ll devote more time to exercise. However, if I [...]

Israel invited me to make a post about how many sets you should do per exercise. For a lot of people going to the gym, the amount of sets you should remains unclear. This post will help you out.
Benefits of Sets. What is the purpose of a set anyway? What is it good for?
Improved Technique. The more sets you do, the more you can practice your technique. If you’re new to weight lifting, 5 sets leads to technical proficiency faster than 3 sets.
Increased Stress. If you Squat 60kg for 3 sets of 5 reps, you have lifted 900kg. 5 sets of 5 reps with 60kg amounts for 1500kg volume. Volume stresses your body: it forces it to build muscle & strength.
The Problem with Sets. Your body needs to recover from all that stress. You can’t do high amounts of sets for a long time without overtraining. Some symptoms you might experience:
Lack of motivation
Strength loss
Problems sleeping
Injuries
How Many Sets Should You Do? Best is to shoot for 15 to 25 reps per exercise depending on how many reps you do. Your warm-up sets don’t count. Examples:
2 sets of 12 reps. More endurance & sarcoplasmic hypertrophy.
All rep ranges build muscle, strength & endurance. But some do it better than others. Start light, learn to do your exercises correctly & add weight each workout.
Unless you understand how sets & reps affect your body and thus the results you’re getting, stick to a routine proven to work. If you don’t know which one, check out StrongLifts 5×5. It takes 3×30mins per week.

That’s right. You heard me say it: eating to lose weight. I’ll say it one more time to let it sink in: eating to lose weight.
Now why in the world would someone eat to lose weight? Well, here’s the secret: It’s not the amount of food really, but the number of times. Let’s look over a couple of myths so I can explain it to you a little better:
1. “You have to eat less to lose weight.” If you’re downing a gallon of milk with a bag of cookies, then yeah, it’s time to cut back some. However, if you’re eating sensibly and not losing weight if you’re overweight, then it’s probably when and how often. Your stomach is like a log fire. Keep logs on it and it keeps burning (calories), but if you let it go out, it takes forever to get it going again. So you need to eat smaller meals but more often in the day, like 5 or 6 times. What’s good is 3 regular meals and 2 to 3 snacks. If you drink plenty of water with each meal and spread them out, then you’ll feel full most of the day and your metabolism will run like crazy, burning the heck out of calories. Snacks should be slightly smaller than meals.
2. “You have to eat vegetables or food that tastes bad to lose weight.” Veggies are good for you, sure. But they are not a necessity to losing weight. I eat pizza once a week. I also have hamburgers and fries. And I’ve lost over 70 pounds so far from diet alone. If you don’t get enough vegetables, then hopefully you’re at least taking a decent multivitamin. The main thing to remember is to not go nuts. Limit your portions. Don’t eat an entire medium pizza. Eat a personal size pizza or 1 or 2 slices of the medium instead. The cool thing is you get to do it again in about 2 hours.
Eating food makes the body burn calories. Eating too much food makes it store fat. However, eating small amounts throughout the day keeps it burning calories even when you’re sleeping. When I first started my diet, I’d go to bed and wake up 5 pounds lighter. Sure, I weighed 355 pounds so that much came off easily, but it was purely by diet changes. Don’t let your “log fire” burn out and you’ll be shedding pounds fast without very much work at all. When that stops working, then you will need the exercise to lose weight. But you’ll be in better shape and able to handle the exercise easier.
Here are several, easy steps that will help you lose weight:1. Buy a Scale2. Clean out Your Cupboards3. Keep a Journal4. Tell Everyone5. Eat Several Small Meals a Day6. Give Yourself Treats7. Start an Exercise Plan

I do realize that several of you guys will be like, that’s no big deal, but it snowed in Georgia this weekend. Some friends of ours went with us to Atlanta to help my sister move, and a snow storm hit. We wore short sleeves on Christmas day, and it sno…
Every guy has a list. We as men have an inherit obsession with lists. We are programmed to respect the priority and organization that the all Holy List provides. Moses introduced all brethren of the world to the original and ultimate list when he returned from Mt. Sinai with the Ten Commandments.
One of the lists that swirls around the head of every man is a personal “before I die†to-do list. And to be honest it may be the most important list of all. This list is the definitive barometer of overall life accomplishments. I have compiled my personal list and am making it available for public consumption. How does my list compare to yours?
Before I Die I Must:
Attain the elusive six-pack abdominals. I had them once in my early pre-teens but lost them as soon as I started packing on size for my first year of high school football. Darn cheesecake, Doritos, and chocolate-chip cookie dough ice cream did me in.
Travel to at least three exotic places. Brazil, Japan, and Iceland are my top choices. Nothing better than being in a new place that makes you feel like an alien. Besides trying new foods is one of my favorite hobbies.
Have a threesome. Yes we have to be honest folks. And this is on the list. Hey a guy’s gotta dream right? Two girls and just one of me. I guess the fixation with this one is that it proves a man to be the top dog, doubly desirable, and maybe sets you free of sexual insecurities. Perhaps this one is a little immature and the pressure is high to perform. But hey I’m more than up for it and I could probably combine this one with my Brazil trip.
Get in the ring. This one is something I really look forward to. Testing my fighting skills in one on one combat. Even if I get knocked out at least the training leading up to the fight will get me in top shape. Secondly, the experience I will gain during my journey to be a gladiator even if for one fight will serve as motivation for all my other life endeavors. The only uncertainty with this one is who will be my opponent. I wonder if I can Google my first grade bully?
Walk across America. Yes I’m serious about this one. I’ll start in the Bronx and finish in San Diego. No better way to find yourself and appreciate the beauty of this great country all at the same time. I look forward to this one more than the others. I know I will wear out a few sneakers for sure.
Write a novel. I have at least one in me, I know it. But to be realistic I’m not so optimistic with this one. What are the chances of me being able to get all my scattered thoughts and stories out onto paper in one fluid, concise work of art? I have to be really lucky to get this one done but it would be nice to accomplish.
Become Rich. Yes having enough zeros in the bank to take care of my loved ones and living comfortably would be a major dream of mine. I have so much I want to do in my life but I continuously trip over the “don’t have enough dough to make it happen†hurdle. How will I make myself a financial success? Well I have a few tricks up my sleeve. Nuff said.
Last but not least, I want to find the woman of my dreams. This goal has remained the same for me for years. But just what defines the girl of my dreams is what has changed. In the past curves and sexy eyes might have been the defining characteristics of my soul mate. But now someone who understands me and dreams just as hard as I do are the traits I most desire. It wouldn’t hurt if she liked to walk and helped me with my list. I wonder if she has a good jab!
To be frank after writing this list down and looking it over I have decided not to make it my life list. Rather it will be my 2008 to-do list. Life is too short to sit on your hands and watch it fly by right before your eyes. Why is “Eye of the Tiger†from Rocky playing in my head?

So you make money with your laptop, right? Cool, the handy slim, rectangular circuit box puts bread on the table. It also keeps you in contact with love ones, that’s an enriching component to its repertoire. It may even get you laid, thank God for Craig’s List…you know what I’m talking about horn dogs. But does your prissy laptop make you sweat and improve your heart’s health? Does it give your muscles a burn? If not it’s because you’re not utilizing it right.
The average laptop weighs about 7 pounds, some of the larger HP entertainment versions can tip the scales at around 12 pounds. This weight combined with the normal tension you will feel from not wanting to drop your holy money maker, doohickey will create an awesome workout apparatus.
So first and foremost unplug your laptops geniuses, we don’t want any accidents.
Stand with your laptop in your hands perpendicular to the floor. Extend your arms out and twist to the right hold it, bring it back to the center pause and then hit the left and hold it, get a good stretch. Concentrate and take these slow. Do 20 reps. Next keep the laptop in the same position but now press it against your belly. Perform the same twist but now add a squat when you arrive at center, perform 20 reps. Following that resume the extended position with the laptop and perform 15 more twisting squats.
Next hit the floor, do not let the laptop hit floor! Lay down on the floor and hold the laptop in your hands with your palms facing each other. Press your laptop for 55 reps. Feel the burn your laptop can inflict!
Now get a pillow. No you’re not going to take your laptop- human relationship to the “next level†you freak. Set the pillow on the floor above your head, it will serve as a cushion so you don’t bang up the precious laptop. Your starting position is at your belly button and simply stretch with the laptop with your arms extended and reach backwards tapping the pillow. Perform this movement for 30 reps and then immediately do 15 reps but when you reach your chest perform 5 rapid presses.
The next move requires you to sit, so get comfy. Simply take your laptop above your head with arms fully extended and then lower the laptop behind your neck and bring back up to the start position. Perform 100 reps. After that press the laptop off your chest for 35 reps.
Now that you have bonded with the laptop and have earned the trust of the television, keyboard thingy take it to the next level. Perform lunges with the laptop pressed against your chest. Do these lunges slowly and carefully with focus to create optimal tension. Perform 20 laptop lunges for each leg.
Hope you enjoyed the workout, take care to all, and get active no matter what!
